Dr.Peter Hull is presented with a commemorative
plaque at the CDA President's Banquet, Toronto, 2007.
L - R: Dr. Kenneth Kobayashi, Secretary Treasurer, CDF, Dr. Harvey Lui, Dr. Peter Hull, CDF Practitioner of the Year, Dr. Neil Shear, President, CDF.

Doctor Peter Hull, Head of the Division of Dermatology, University of Saskatchewan, a clinical dermatologist and researcher, was honoured during the President’s Banquet of the Canadian Dermatology Association, when he was celebrated as the Canadian Dermatology Foundation “Practitioner of the Year 2007”.

Announcing the award, CDF President Dr. Neil Shear described Dr. Hull as an outstanding researcher, teacher and practitioner who had enriched dermatology by his hard work and dedication. Accepting a commemorative plaque, Dr. Hull said that his chosen career had been immensely rewarding, and he was honoured and delighted to receive the award.

In his letter of nomination, Dr Harvey Lui (UBC) stated that he and his colleagues “…believe that Dr. Hull’s career embodies exemplary service and compassion to his patients, leadership to our profession and diligence to discovering new knowledge about the skin and its diseases.” Dr. Lui went on to say that “Dr. Hull is a tenured professor at the University of Saskatchewan, serves as Director of the Phototherapy Department at the Royal University Hospital and maintains an active and busy clinical practice in Saskatoon. He deserves recognition for persistence and leadership in “holding the fort” in a province where the manpower crisis has been extreme. Also, while maintaining an active research program Dr. Hull supervised innumerable medical students and graduates, and has published over 30 peer reviewed articles on a broad range of important dermatological topics.”

Dr. Hull emigrated to Canada in 1990 from South Africa where he had qualified as a physician and pursued his interest in dermatology, receiving a Ph. D. from the University of Witwatersrand. Sponsored by Graceway Canada Company this year, the CDF Practitioner of the Year Award enabled the Foundation to bestow on Dr. Hull a Benefactor Life Membership, the highest level in the CDF.

The CDF Practitioner of the Year is an annual award which was established in 1992 to honour Canadian dermatologists whose major income is produced from clinical practice and who have made a major contribution to dermatology and the community at large.

Previous recipients of the award are Dr. John Toole, Dr. Ricky Kanee Schachter, Dr. W. Stuart Maddin, Dr. Pierre Ricard, Dr. Tom Enta, Dr. William Pace, Dr. Don Rosenthal, Dr. Bob Lester, Dr. J. Barrie Ross, Dr. William N. McEachern, Dr. W. Alastair McLeod and Dr. Donald C. Montgomery, who was the first recipient in 1992.
