The Canadian Dermatology Foundation awarded a total of $375,000 in research grants at the Annual CDF Research Grant Awards Reception at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel. The Foundation was celebrating its 40th anniversary and a new milestone of a total $5 million dedicated to dermatology research.
CDF President Dr Neil H. Shear, congratulated the researchers, and expressed sincere thanks to the corporate benefactors and CDF Members for their financial support, which make the annual grants possible. In particular, the growing number of dermatologists who have donated $10,000 as CDF Benefactor Life Members has made it possible to establish a research grant in their name.
Dr Shear stated “It is an honour to be President of such a dynamic group of people dedicated to our community. I was a CDF Research Grant recipient early in my career and I can vouch for how important funding is to keep the dream growing for a young investigator”. The Canadian Dermatology Foundation was established in 1969 to provide assistance in research into skin disease. The CDF is the leading source of funding for peer-reviewed dermatological research in Canada with grants to date now totalling $5 million. Advances in the study and knowledge of skin disease generate improved methods of diagnosis and treatment, to the benefit of Canadian dermatologists and their patients.
