Dr Tom Enta Receives Canadian Dermatology Foundation's
Practitioner of the Year Award 2000

Dr Tom Enta, of Calgary, Alberta, was selected as the Canadian Dermatology Foundation's Practitioner of the Year 2000. Dr Enta is pictured with CDF President Dr David McLean (UBC) during a special Millennium Year gala banquet honouring Life Members of the Foundation held in Montreal. The Award this year was sponsored by Glaxo Wellcome Inc.

The Valedictory Speaker was Dr Stewart Adams, who warmly described Dr Enta as an inspiration and role model who, through his hard work and dedication, has elevated the practice of dermatology by other specialties - a dermatological practitioner particularly deserving of this lifetime achievement award.

Dr Enta, who was born in British Columbia, grew up in Ontario. He obtained his BSc. from McGill and his MD from UBC, pursuing his specialist training at the University of Wisconsin. In 1970 he became Chief of Dermatology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and taught the first dermatology class at the University of Calgary in 1972, becoming Professor in 1976. Dr Enta has been active on the boards of many dermatological and medical associations; he was a founding member of the Alberta Society of Dermatologists, and is a Past President of the Canadian Dermatology Association.

The recipient of many awards as Clinical Teacher of Dermatology to family medicine residents and lecturer at CME seminars, Dr Enta has also had many original articles published in peer reviewed journals, text books and other publications.

The annual award was established in 1992 to honour Canadian dermatologists whose major income is produced from clinical practice who have made a major contribution to dermatology and the community at large. Nominations are accepted only from CDF Members. The Practitioner of the Year becomes a Life Member of the CDF, which is made possible by a donation from an industry sponsor.

Previous recipients have been Dr. Donald C. Montgomery, Dr. W. Alastair McLeod, Dr. William N. MacEachern, Dr. J. Barrie Ross, Dr. Robert Lester, Dr. Don Rosenthal, and Dr. William A. Pace.

Nominations for Practitioner of the Year are accepted from Members of the Foundation at any time, and are required to be seconded by four other dermatologists and accompanied by a curriculum vitae.
