Doctor Pierre Ricard was honoured as the Canadian Dermatology Foundation Practitioner of the Year 2001. The award, this year sponsored by Dermik Laboratories Canada Inc., bestows Life Membership in the Canadian Dermatology Foundation. Doctor Ricard was presented with a commemorative plaque by President, Dr David McLean at the Annual Meeting in Halifax.
The nomination was proposed by Dr David Gratton of Montreal, who noted that Dr Ricard has been a spokesperson for dermatology throughout his career, particularly as President of the Quebec Dermatology Assocation.
Dr Ricard is well known in academic circles, and has served on the boards of many professional medical associations and community organizations.
Previous recipients of the award are Dr Tom Enta, Dr William Pace, Dr D. Rosenthal, Dr R. Lester, Dr. J. Barrie Ross, Dr William N. McEachern, Dr W. Alastair McLeod and Dr Donald C. Montgomery who was the first recipient in 1992.
To date, the Canadian Dermatology Foundation has distributed over $2.3 million in support of dermatological research.
